What is Financial Entertainment?
Taking cues from business and entertainment strategies, D2D has created Financial Entertainment. This innovation project works with and for consumers in the development of engaging new media to improve personal financial capability, self-confidence and knowledge. D2D’s innovation captures the immersive quality of casual online games to teach important financial lessons.The current financial entertainment library includes five (5) online games:
Bite Club: Save for retirement while running a vampire nightclub;
Celebrity Calamity (2009 Horizon Award Winner): Manage celebrity credit cards and spending
Farm Blitz (EIFLE 2010 Instructional Game of the Year, 2011 Games for Change Direct Impact Award Nominee): Manage farm resources to build savings and survive financial emergencies;
Groove Nation: Dance and budget on the Road to LA;
Refund Rush: Help clients split tax refunds and save during tax time.
Distribution
D2D partners with organizations to distribute these games to consumers; partners include the military, community colleges, financial services firms, employers, government, and community organizations. Financial entertainment is regularly played in middle school and high school classrooms across the US. In addition, D2D has created the first-ever financial literacy video game portal. Visit www.financialentertainment.org to play games and access financial education resources.
Our first mobile game is now available on the iPlatform while Celebrity Calamity, Farm Blitz, and Bite Club are now available for Spanish-language players.
Efficacy Measurement
D2D ensures that our games have demonstrated results during development and preliminary effectiveness testing. In this testing we focus on highlighting improvements in financial skills self-confidence and knowledge. However, D2D is most interested in studying the impact of financial entertainment on consumer financial capability, decision making, on-going behavior and ultimate outcomes for individual consumers.
